Maternal child health services offer top-notch care for women and newborns in a family-centered environment. Our services are provided within the Hale Medical Pavilion at Day Kimball Hospital, a warm and welcoming home-like setting that’s equipped with the latest medical technology and staffed by physicians, advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), physician’s assistants (PAs), and nurses who have been recognized as providing some of the best care in Connecticut.
Labor, Delivery and Neo-Natal Care
Our Burdick Family Birthing Center offers the best possible care for labor and delivery, new mothers, newborns, and sick newborns that do not need neo-natal intensive care, all delivered with a family-centered approach and in a welcoming, home-like environment.
Located on the first floor of the Hale Medical Pavilion, the Birthing Center includes seven beautifully appointed labor, delivery and recovery rooms equipped with the latest fetal monitoring and birthing equipment as well as many of the comforts of home.
If a cesarean section is necessary, an ultramodern C-section procedure room is located right within the Center. Also present is a state-of-the-art central fetal monitoring system, allowing nurses to continually monitor both mother’s and baby’s vital signs before and after birth. On those rare occasions when a baby may need additional highly specialized care, our association with the University of Massachusetts in Worcester means a neo-natal intensive care unit is quickly available.
The Center is staffed by a warm and caring team of board certified obstetricians/gynecologists, family practice physicians, APRNs, PAs, and nurses who have extensive experience in maternity and newborn care. Our team of pediatric hospitalists and APRNs specially trained in neonatal care provide excellent care around-the-clock to newborns. And our nurses have been consistently rated highest in patient satisfaction in Connecticut according to an independent, national survey.

Our surgical suite for non-maternity gynecology patients offers the latest technology for procedures such as tubal ligation (having your “tubes tied”), endometrial ablation and hysterectomy – all within a coordinated, compassionate and woman-centered environment. Billing and Payment Information
Billing for physician’s office visits will be submitted to your insurance by Day Kimball Medical Group. If you have questions about your Day Kimball Medical Group Bill, please call the DKMG business office at (860) 928-9270.
Billing for labor and delivery or surgical procedures will be submitted to your insurance carrier by more than one party; the physician’s practice for professional services, Day Kimball Hospital for facility services and Sheridan Health Corporation for anesthesiology services, when applicable. Please check with your insurance carrier for details about your specific coverage, copays, deductibles and any prior authorization requirements.

What To Expect
To ensure that that your wishes are followed during labor and delivery, be sure to discuss pain control options with your doctor or nurse midwife.
The State of Connecticut requires that a birth certificate be completed prior to discharge. A staff member, from Medical Records, will visit you in the hospital to gather the information needed. Medical Records can also help you obtain a social security number for your baby.
You, your baby, and partner/support person will be banded with matching identification bracelets. The bracelets serve for security and identification purposes only.
We will provide you with ice chips and fluids for comfort during labor. You may want to bring other personal items to help you through labor.
You may want to consider bringing a nightgown and bathrobe, shampoo and toiletries and a pacifier for your new baby, if you plan on using one. You should also bring clothes for your baby for when you go home, including undershirt, outfit, hat and, depending on the weather, a sweater and/or bunting with feet.
Make sure you have a car seat to take your baby home in and have it available at the time of discharge. Please familiarize yourself with it and try it in your car ahead of time because our nurses are not able to put the seat in your car. Your local police department may be able to help you learn to properly install your car seat.
Important Things to Remember
For security reasons, visitors are limited to individuals who know a patient by name.
Brothers and sisters of new babies are welcome, but other children need to be 12-years-old or older to visit.
